Ahh Yes, the Phantom. I’m probably one of the few people who still love the Phantom, but honestly it has fallen far behind in the world of practical consumer drones (batteries are expensive, not the most portable, loud, props and legs in the frame, next to no autonomous flight modes, limited active track, etc. It requires a complete makeover to become relevant in 2020. Lets hope DJI comes out with something amazing! What do you think? Share your thoughts in a comment under this video.
If DJI starts selling the Consumer grade Phantom again, it will be at this link:

Hi Captain drone should i get the DJI Phantom 4 Pro 2.0 with three batteries for $500. They selling it in mint condition. I've looked at the flight logs and they gave me the cycles of the battery and everything looks good. Is it worth it I get it or save for the Mavic air?
Image and the wider angle lens on the phantom is what make it a better drone. Same sensor but different processing power.
ok you says that is irrelevant, but why DJI desire to put DJI phantom 4 pro again to sell. there is a reason????.
i have it even thought im 11 and its actually a good drone
Also blows the mavic out of the water when it comes to mapping…. I also have a M2p. Would be awesome if they could put a global shutter on a mavic tho.
It's still got a better camera than the newer drones on the market….oh and it has a global shutter
Good points you cover. Especially the fact that on the newer Mavic drones you can’t fly in ATTI mode which is vital for those cinematic smooth shots. I love my Phantom 4 Pro 👍
So what mavic model would you recommend Steve? Wanna move up from my bugs 4 which I bought on your recommendation as has been great but want something with the same power but a better camera……as always thanks for all your help
I'm here on the Gulf Coast of Florida on March 25 2020 with nothing to do because the restaurant where I work was shut down along with every other eating establishment due to the viral pandemic. I just ordered a used P4 from Adorama for $569 including next day air even though I have no idea when or where my next dollar will come from. It will arrive tomorrow. I can't wait. I would say with the amount of tech packed into a drone and the amount of content I will be able to create for under $600 makes the P4 very relevant today!!!
When the Phantom 5 comes out can you make a video about it
Good review but may only be from the video or recreational photography prospective. The Phantom 4 Advanced and Pro are still the ONLY relevant option for users who are conducting mapping and photogrammetry data analysis. Nothing else DJI has can Service that market. I suspect that the re-launch of the P4P late last year is in large part to feed that demand from semi-industrial users with a fleet to maintain.
The P4A and P4P were great but big, the MP not so good but now owning a spark, MA and MPz I would be hard pressed to go back to the Phantoms. The folding drones are so convenient yet cameras much better. It's just the way things advance. I never use 4k not even for real estate as most can't tell or need the increased clarity and it requires more horsepower to edit.
I guess I’m weird. I still like that design. I don’t care about how elaborate the filming is. I don’t care about most of the features. I just like to Fly and see the view like a bird. yes I’m a old man and this drone appears to be very tuff and for some reason I’m convinced it is extremely reliable. Hope I’m right about that because I’m getting ready to purchase one.
Yes, i have a Phantom 4 Pro V.2. The reason i went with this is because i'm putting a Flir thermal camera witha 2nd gymbal. The mavic can't do this and the Inspire is just too expensive and big.
I'm nearly 68 so guessing I'm at the high end of your subscribers, with old-guy views…
My Phantoms still are. Relevant. But your logic isn't easily contested Steve… I guess my line is that my first non-toy bird was a P4 std, to which I added an Air flymore pack the month that was released. I persevered with these, having some bad-ish experiences with the MavAir. After a while when the first Mavic Pro came down to about £700 new on Amazon U.K., with their easy return system. Snagged one. LOVED it. Really. Bought extra batteries and a hard case. Continued to love it.
Bumbled along with that for a while, But decided when I saw a perfect low-hours P4 advanced on eBay with shoulder pack. Quiet props too. That camera was too much to resist, so – I stopped trying…
That's where I am still. I have reasons to love all three formats, nothing original to add there I'm afraid. I'm not particularly skilled on the sticks but when I'm on the ball (at my level) I have a ball. Sometime have a jamboree day by taking them all out for a spin.
Clips like this, I thoroughly enjoy. Solid experience distilled into a deeply interesting combination.
For me, this is up there with your best work. Nice chatty conversational delivery, very professional standard.
Keep making these, please?.
You'll have guessed that for me, all three are still relevant! The folders are ultra handy, can take one out on my electric bike, but the majestic Rolls Royce of DJI kit for me remains my second P4, the "Advanced".
I've never needed the crash sensors of any of my machines so the extra ones on the Pro weren't worth it. The Advanced commanded more modest £numbers so .I could get it without having to starve for a couple of months!
I agree it may not be a starter drone, not the most portable, not the quietest but I love it because of these facts. I had the spark, mavic pro, mavic 2 pro but still wanted a phantom. I had to buy a used phantom 4 pro v2.0 plus as I couldn't buy a new one but I don't regret buying it for a second. It is still a portable drone – I use a manfroto backpack and can easily take the drone anywhere I can walk. Granted, I can fit the the mavic pro and mavic 2 pro, both controllers, 6 batteries (3 for each), an 8" tablet, 2 tablet mounts and all necessary cables in a 3rd party backpack the same size as the phantom in the manfroto bag but still love the phantom because it's a beast and it sounds awesome.
What is the band on the base? Looks like it will clash with the camera?
Edit: haha thanks i finished watching your video.
They should make a phantom 5 with ability to have some kind of "payload" so you can go and drop dog turds on peoples houses.
haha so true. They own the iconic drone shape ie SOUTH PARK but they have no reason to actually use it.
your video is actually 30 fps. soz to break it to you.
I have owned 2 phantoms and 1 Mavic….I loved all 3, but they are all at the bottom of the ocean. I live on a boat and sail solo and the one great thing about the phantom is “catching the drone from a moving boat” and “visually seeing the larger” drone for flying more easily……When I get a new one it will be the phantom again….
I love my phantom 4 pro ,who else agrees with me?
Been waiting for two years now for the next gen Phantom 5 Pro. Losing my patience. The P4P with the GPS 'hat" is a joke for us in the engineering world … DJI knows it too. Just want a powerful, portable, long flight time with mechanical shuttered large sensor and excellent lens camera on it for aerial photography and "scanning".
I've got most of the Mavic's and got the P4P as a rec pilot, I think its a blast to fly. I reckon the prop wash from the P4P could blow the Mini away lol
I’m looking at my first drone, I’m looking for the best bang for the buck. I’m searching for one used, maybe a inspire 1?
Do they use any other quadcopters for AG other than the phantom?
The thing with the Phantom line is very confusing. I’m not sure as to whether DJI is keeping a secret from us that the Phantom line is done for, or if they’re developing a new phantom which I highly doubt. I recently talked to a DJI member, and they told me that the Phantom 4 pro v2 is still for sale, but they’re just trying to get more back in stock. But why would they not make any other phantoms when they just made the multispectral? The phantom line is my favorite line, but this is extremely frustrating.
