On paper the two cameras for Phantom4 Pro and Mavic 2 Pro are the same. However, I've found (and I'm not sure if anyone else has run into this) that when I record 4k 60p on the Mavic2 Pro, I get a soft (almost gradient) black border just inside the frame. The only way to get rid of it is to Digitally zoom in during post or drop down to the next resolution (2700). I don't get that on the P4P in 4k 60p though.
I'm a little late to the party but I comment anyways. I'm super bummed out that there is not going to be a phantom 5 pro. Additionally I refuse to buy any drone that is not better in all aspects than the phantom 4 pro. Mavic 2 pro is closed. But I want to have a mechanical shutter. That is the only reason that I will not buy a mavic 2 pro.
I also got to believe that there's got to be some other drone at the same price point coming out 2020. I still can't believe there is not a drone at the same price point as the phantom 4 pro that is better and all aspects.
So I will continue to wait and keep my money out of the market until that day comes.
Mavics are perfect for the hobbyist, but there is still demand for the Phantom 4 2.0, for professional use. Autel just upped the game, interesting to see what the Mavic 3, and if a Phantom 5 does come out, what will be there capabilities.
Dji is just a pathetic company in every way.

Those images released at YouTube of Phantom IV drones with interchangeable cameras were made for sure for a military customer.
The only "customers" in this world able to hide their drones from public knowledge are the military forces…

I think you are stuck on this idea of portability being a barrier to demand. Certainly, the 5 if it will exist, will have to pack a lot more than the P4 but you are ignoring the likelihood of this. A bigger drone has more carrying capacity so might have a bigger camera with better lenses, zoom and maybe interchangeable. Yes, the Inspire already does but it IS NOT a consumer product whereas the Phantom platform is.
The problem for the 5 if it is made is that it has to significantly better the Mavic range. But just look at the 4 now. Just out again and still significantly more expensive than the Mavic despite being on-par in many areas with only really the mechanical shutter to distinguish it.
But here's the other issue. VLOS. A bigger drone is easier to see.
We need a P5. Mavic 2 has no 60 fps, has no inbuilt screen on the controller and has low bitrate video. Inspire 2 is way to expensive, ridiculously expensive and huge. Phantom 5 would be perfect for professionals who actually use it for work (because of the interchangeable lens etc,) because it would be a lot better than a mavic and cheaper than an Inspire.
What if the reasons you mentioned in regard to drones going smaller and more portable, are the reasons pro pilots will want a Phantom 5 over an Inspire??
You are totally wrong. The Phantom 5 is coming and it will be keep the same shape but with retractable legs.

Nobody wants a big drone anymore, unless your using it for business purposes. I like the size and speed of the air. Can be up in less then a minute. The P3S which I have as well, always seemed to take longer (putting on blades etc). Plus the size of the air is great – the P3S used to take up a lot of boot space. The air goes in the glove box.
If the Mavic Air 2 will be like a high quality Mavic Mini, it is the one I will be waiting for
